Who we help The Trauma Recovery Centre provides therapy for people who are experiencing psychological difficulties following a trauma. The trauma may have been an accident at work, a road traffic accident, an assault, a medical procedure, an abuse of some form, or involvement in a war or conflict situation. Psychological reactions to traumatic situations can be very varied. Problems may include: intrusive images (flashbacks) to the event, dreams or nightmares, panic attacks, increased irritability, depression, increased feelings of vulnerability, withdrawal, generalized anxiety, lowered confidence, difficulty in maintaining friendships and relationships and problems with concentration or memory. When someone has a particular combination of these symptoms they are sometimes given a formal diagnosis of ‘Post Traumatic Stress Disorder’ or PTSD. However you do not have to have a diagnosis of PTSD to receive help from the Trauma Recovery Centre. We provide therapy for anyone who is experiencing psychological difficulty as a result of a trauma.
